Coming Soon: Dungeon Hunter 5

Dungeon Hunter 5, the latest in Gameloft’s Diablo-like hack and slash RPG series, is coming soon to iOS.

Dungeon Hunter has a bit of a mixed history on iOS, seemingly following whatever monetization scheme is popular at the time. The first two games were complete, paid Diablo style RPGs at reasonable prices. The third eschewed all of that in exchange for a wave-based multiplayer arcade game, which alienated fans of the first two games. The fourth restored the original game design of the first two games, but buried that game under a mountain of ads, timers, and pay-to-win item popups.

If Gameloft’s new teaser website is any indication, Dungeon Hunter 5 is going further down the path of sleaze. Rather than describing anything about the game, this website instead offers you consumable in-app currency and items in exchange for spamming your friends on various social networks.

I’d give a lot for Blizzard to port any of the Diablo games to iOS. Sadly, it again looks like Dungeon Hunter is set to fall far short of that ideal.
