AFTERPAD

Hi,
Received my nimbus the other day and I am trying to connect it to my iPad 3 that currently runs on iOS 9.3.1 but I can't get it to work. The iPad can see and connect to the game pad but it is not detected in the companion app and is it not detected in monster hunter game. I have tried deleting all other Bluetooth connections but no joy.  The game pad is not faulty as it can be connected to an iPhone that uses iOS 8.3 with no hassle. I have checked the firmware is up to date through the phone.
Does any one have any suggestions? I can't find this issue anywhere online.
