iFrogz Caliber Edge Overview
The Caliber Edge is an Extended layout iPhone game controller design shown off by iFrogz.
As per the Extended MFi controller layout specifications, the Caliber Edge features 4 face buttons, a d-pad, left and right shoulder buttons, left and right triggers, 2 analog sticks, and a pause button. The face buttons, shoulder buttons, triggers, analog sticks, and d-pad are all pressure sensitive.
The history of iFrogz and MFi controllers is complex. They were first on the scene with a controller design and SDK mere weeks before Apple announced MFi controller support for iOS. This last-minute announcement forced iFrogz to re-tool their earlier hardware design and business model into something more applicable to Apple’s new plans.
In addition to the Caliber Edge, iFrogz has shown off two other controller designs: the Caliber Advantage and the Caliber Phantom. The Advantage was a slider-style controller case, and predated the MFi controller program. The Phantom was a rendering for a wireless Bluetooth MFi controller.
Since then, iFrogz has revealed very little information about their controller plans. All references to the Caliber controllers have been removed from the Zagg / iFrogz websites. Presumably, these controllers have been cancelled.
