Updated: The Bard’s Tale

The Bard’s Tale, a quirky and original game that falls somewhere between a full-scale RPG and a parody of a full-scale RPG, was recently updated for full MFi controller support, as well as iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus support.

The Bard’s Tale is an excellent iOS port of a game that does a great job playing with the tropes familiar to RPG fans. From the intro mission – the obligatory “rid the cellar of rats” quest given by a buxom barmaid – to the way the narration (excellently performed by the late Tony Jay of ReBoot fame) comments on the time-honored RPG tradition of searching through random treasure chests in peoples’ homes, it’s clear that The Bard’s Tale is trying to be something more than the usual.

The Bard’s Tale has actually supported most MFi controllers for some time, but for whatever reason, bluetooth controllers like the Stratus never worked. This latest update fixes this issue, as well as providing tweaks to provide a better experience on iOS8 and on the new iPhone 6 models.

Gamers looking for an RPG that approaches the genre a little differently should definitely give The Bard’s Tale a look. This excellent port includes an updated and enhanced iOS-optimized version of the original PS2 game, as well as including the entire “Bard’s Tale” series of computer games. Everything works great on iOS, with full hands-free controller support. A strong recommendation for fans of the genre.
