Hey everyone,

I’m curious about the exact dimensions of a standard tennis court. I know there are different types of courts for singles and doubles matches, but how much space does a full court take up? Also, does the surface type (clay, grass, hard court) affect the size in any way?

I’m considering setting up a small practice area and want to understand the space requirements. If anyone has experience with court layouts or has built one before, I’d love to hear your insights.

A standard tennis court has the following dimensions:

Singles court: 23.77 meters (78 feet) long and 8.23 meters (27 feet) wide
Doubles court: 23.77 meters (78 feet) long and 10.97 meters (36 feet) wide
Total playing area (including run-off space): At least 36.6m x 18.3m (120ft x 60ft) is recommended for comfortable play.
The surface type (clay, grass, hard court) does not change the size but can impact ball bounce and player movement. If you’re setting up a practice area, consider a smaller hitting wall or half-court to save space.
