Question About Using Thermal Stickers for Labeling
Hey everyone,
I’ve been looking into using thermal stickers for labeling packages and was wondering about a couple of things. Do thermal stickers require a specific type of printer, or can I use them with any regular label printer?
Also, how long do they typically last before the print fades? I’m planning to use them for shipping, and I need something durable enough to withstand varying temperatures during transit. Any recommendations on the best thermal stickers or printer models that work well would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance!
Hey there!
Thermal stickers do require a specific type of printer, known as a thermal printer, which uses heat to create the print, rather than ink or toner. You can't use regular label printers unless they’re specifically designed for thermal printing. There are two types of thermal printing: direct thermal (where heat-sensitive labels are used) and thermal transfer (which uses a ribbon for more durable prints).
As for longevity, direct thermal prints can fade over time, especially with exposure to sunlight, heat, or friction. However, thermal transfer labels tend to last much longer, making them ideal for shipping.
For durable options, I’d recommend brands like Zebra or DYMO, which work well for shipping needs.
Yes, thermal stickers require a specific thermal printer, not a regular label printer. For shipping, thermal stickers printed with direct thermal technology might fade over time, especially with exposure to sunlight and heat, but thermal transfer labels are much more durable. For reliable results, brands like Zebra and DYMO are great options.
