MOGA Rebel
I know I've read stuff about the Rebel not being a very good controller when stacked up against other options. What, specifically, are the problems with this controller?
Random disconnects is the big one. You'll be playing; the controller disconnects and reconnects. Takes about a second.
Also, the analog sticks and d-pad suck. And it feels cheap and light.
That's about it. the triggers are great, buttons are fine, and the integrated grip is handy. But overall, not a great controller option compared with the others
Random disconnects would certainly suck. I've never really cared about d-pads as long as they are functional. The analog sticks would be a major issue for me, though. What in particular sucks about them?
They're not grippy, they only have a small ridge at the edges of a flat, barely rubberized surface
Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. One last question. Are the analog sticks loose like a PlayStation controller, or tighter like a 360 controller?
I haven't found much of a difference between PS3 and Xbox 360 analogs in terms of resistance, but I'd say the Rebel is closer to the Xbox controller than the PS3 pad. The Xbox is less "grippy" than the PS3, and the Rebel is less grippy than both.
The PS3 has less resistance than the Xbox 360, and I'd say the Rebel lies somewhere between the two.
I'd much rather use PS3 or Xbox analogs than the Rebel analogs.
Thanks!
I had the money and am too impatient to wait for a controller to ship to me, so I went ahead and picked up the Rebel at a local store.
So far I am liking it quite a bit. The grip (or lack thereof) on the analog sticks isn't enough to bug me (yet...).
I like the resistance of the analog sticks and triggers.
I don't mind the d-pad. I haven't had a chance to test it out on a good platformer yet, but I've always liked the more circular designs (reminds me of the Genesis Nomad).
The biggest issue so far is the angle of the smart grip for my phone. It needs to lie back a bit further, but I don't think it'll be a deal breaker.
Like Kev says the biggest issue is the random disconnects, everything else is acceptable.
The random disconnects is because the App is initiating "Controller Forwarding" in iOS8, for some reason the Rebel doesn't like it.. seems ok on other controllers though.
I've found the MOGA Rebel doesn't randomly disconnect under any other circumstance apart from this "controller forwarding" malarky.
A Firmware update is needed to fix this, but that is not going to happen anytime soon from MOGA as support seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
I was actually able to reproduce the disconnects on iOS 7, when memory was really low. I think it's just a bad controller.
The Contour looks like it'll be a similar design, just done better

That's true, it certainly does look better. Too bad I'm impatient ?

If you need a controller with an iPhone clip today, grab a Mad Catz - definitely!
