Moga Ace Power Overview
The Moga Ace Power controller is an Extended layout iPhone and iPad game controller produced by Moga.
As per the Extended MFi controller layout specifications, the Ace Power features 4 face buttons, a d-pad, 2 left and 2 right shoulder buttons, 2 analog sticks (circular disks in this case), and a pause button. This is in contrast to the Standard controller layout specification, which loses the 2 lower shoulder triggers and 2 analog sticks. The face buttons, shoulder buttons, analog inputs, and d-pad are all pressure sensitive.
The Ace Power includes an integrated 1800mAh battery, almost doubling the attached iPhone's battery life. Sound output from the Moga Ace Power is handled through an integrated headphone jack powered through the iPhone’s Lightning port by a digital-to-analog converter built in to the controller.
The Moga Ace Power connects to the iPhone via the Lightning port, and is compatible with the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, and iPod Touch (5th Gen).
History
MOGA has a long history developing game controllers for Android phones, with at least 4 models of Android controller released. MOGA’s parent company Power-A makes a wide variety of cheap console controllers under their own name, as well as white labeled controllers for other brands.
While developers had access to early iPhone controller prototypes from Logitech, The Moga Ace Power was the first MFi game controller to be released to the general public, hitting store shelves in October of 2013.
In 2015, the Ace Power is a bit hard to come by. You can still find it on Amazon, but Apple no longer sells it in their stores. The Moga company appears to no longer exist, making future availability questionable.
