Xbox-style “Speedy” MFi Controller Coming Soon

One of the most popular forms of MFi controller on the market is the Xbox-style layout Bluetooth pad, and I’m happy to be able to reveal the latest controller to fit this style.

Codenamed the “PXN Speedy” is manufactured by an MFi-certified OEM responsible for building multiple controllers for well-known companies. Most of the MFi controllers currently available, as well as hundreds of controllers from the past 18 years, are from the same team. These guys know how to build controllers.

Now, for the first time ever, they’re planning on launching an MFi controller of their own. Their new pad is the spitting image of an Xbox 360 controller – staggered analog sticks, elevated circular dpad, large ABXY buttons, bumpers and triggers – everything an Xbox gamer would want out of an iOS gamepad.

But the “Speedy” takes it one step further by adding an attachable iPhone grip to the back, similar to the Mad Catz C.T.R.L.i pad. These grips are always a welcome addition, and I always find it surprising when a controller ships without one.

As this controller is already MFi certified, we shouldn’t have long to wait until it is released. Pricing and availability has yet to be nailed down, but considering that design, manufacturing, and marketing is all being handled in-house, I’d be shocked if the price wasn’t reasonable.

I’ll be going hands-on with this one soon, and putting together a full preview for the site, as well as providing feedback and suggestions. With any luck, when this “Speedy” controller is released later this year, it will wind up being a compelling option for iOS gamers.

Deal Alert! The Moga Ace Power is Available Dirt Cheap

Update

No more crazy-good deal, the price is back up to $33. Still not bad, but not a no-brainer like $12. I’ll let you know if we get another opportunity like this.

Well that was fast. Right on the heels of yesterday’s controller discount post, MOGA dropped the price of the old Ace Power controller even further. From a launch price of $99, the MOGA Ace Power is currently available for just $12.99!

The Ace Power may have been greatly eclipsed in quality by newer, more solid controllers, but I’ll always have a special affinity for this one. I don’t particularly like clipping my iPhone into a giant bluetooth controller – having a controller-case that transforms my device into something akin to a PSP is superior, in my opinion.

If you are still rocking an iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, or iPod Touch, for the love of god, buy one of these controllers immediately! It isn’t the best controller out there, but it’s sure as heck worth $13! And if you’re a developer, there has never been a better chance to get a cheap, full-featured controller to test your game with. Heck, grab one of the PowerShells for $9.99 while you’re at it, test Standard and Extended controller support at the same time.

Recently, the owner of MFiGames.com has been a little busy, so we’ve decided to temporarily cross-post some of the content from AfterPad to his site.

AfterPad is still the primary outlet for all of my writing, but if you’d rather read it on MFiGames, that’ll be an option now too.

Additionally, we’re discussing further ways of collaborating long-term, hopefully to grow the iOS gaming ecosytem and provide more content to MFi controller owners.

King of Fighters Series On Sale

Good news for fighting game fans: every game in the King of Fighters series is currently on sale for $0.99!

It’s unclear why the sale is happening. Perhaps it’s due to the developer’s recent release of Garou: Mark of the Wolf. Whatever the reason for the sale, fighting game fans with MFi controllers will want to give these a download.
